The Rickard Sisters: March 2024

The wondrous duo Sophie and Scarlett Rickard talked with Alex Fitch about their collaboration.

Sophie (script) and Scarlett (art) have attracted a large following for their best-selling adaptation of the well-known but slightly less well-read Edwardian novel The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. More recently No Surrender, written by a suffragette, has allowed an almost unknown novelist to come to light again. Both graphic novels are published by SelfMadeHero, and a third is promised for late 2025. Sophie and Scarlett talked about the process of turning these Edwardian texts about human rights and sufferance into award-nominated comics, as well as their debut graphic novel Mann's Best Friend, and about Scarlett’s particular interest in turn of the century hand-painted typography.
