Cartoon County has provided an umbrella for meetings, exhibitions, workshops, comic fairs and comic artists’ participation for over 30 years.
Formed in 1993 as The Sussex Association of Cartoonists and Comic Strip Artists, Cartoon County’s aims are:
● To increase understanding and enjoyment of comics, graphic novels, sequential illustration, and related visual arts
● To foster greater engagement with contemporary comics, graphic novels and sequential illustration, and other visual arts
● To increase opportunities for artists and professionals within the comics industry (including but not limited to critics, producers, promoters, funders) to come together for presentations, discussion, learning and social events
● To create, develop or promote opportunities for cartoonists, graphic novelists and sequential illustrators in getting their work more widely seen
● To provide support to artists for artistic and creative development in the form of skills-sharing, mentorship and instructional resources
● To showcase new and established artists
● To defend and promote the work of human artists against technologies which may threaten their livelihoods
● To create an environment that is welcoming and accessible to all.
